Planning/Zoning:
The Land Use Department is the permitting center for Land Use activities. The department provides staff support to the Planning Commission, Zoning Commission, Inland Wetlands Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Zoning Wetlands Enforcement. The department provides information, applications and permits for all Land Use Commission and departments.

Building:
The Building Department implements the expressed intent of the CT State Building Code which is to ensure public safety, health and welfare insofar as they are affected by building construction, through structural strength, adequate means of regress facilities, sanitary equipment, light and ventilation, and fire safety, and in general, to secure safety to life and property from all hazards incident to the design, erection, repair, removal, demolition or occupancy of buildings, structures or premises.
Specific functions are to issue permits, conduct plan reviews, perform inspections, provide document research, maintain records on structures and code conformance, meets with contractors, homeowners, design professionals to coordinate with code compliance and to respond to emergencies such as fires, storm, and natural calamities. Public service and assistance.
Health/Sanitarian:
The primary mission of the Brookfield Health Department is to create a healthy environment for its’ citizens; through the promotion of essential public health endeavors; through the prevention of the spread of disease, premature death, illness and disability, and; through the protection of the community through emergency preparedness planning, disease surveillance and public health hazard mitigation. A primary focus will be on education of the general public with regard to each of these aspects of public health and enforcement of public health laws and regulations.
Fire Marshal:
The Fire Marshal’s office is located in Town Hall. This office will advise you of the fire protection requirements, even for a business in a residential home. If necessary, they will review your plans and give required approvals.
