This Department includes two Registrars, one Democratic and one Republican.
The Registrars of Voters are elected to serve four year terms. They receive their authority from the Secretary of State, who is the Commissioner of Elections.
The Registrars are responsible for the proper conduct of elections and the maintenance of accurate voter registration records, as defined by state statutes.
Duties of the office include the following:
Register new voters and make changes and deletions to the voter list.
Hold special voter registration sessions.
Set up the polls and provide notices, personnel, and equipment for the caucuses, primaries, elections, and budget meetings.
Complete the annual canvas of Brookfield voters.
Provide monthly updates of voter registration lists to town departments, town committees, and State legislators.
Attend in-service training sessions relating to new legislation, conduct of elections, and various duties and responsibilities.
