The Communications Center is the heart
of the Police Department. All calls for service are generated from
Communications. The Police Department currently employs eight (8)
full time Communications Operators (also known as Dispatchers) and
three (3) Part-time employees.
Communications Operators staff the center 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Their duties include, but are not limited to answering all E-911 phone calls; answering the police and fire lines as well as dispatching all police/fire and ambulance calls.
The console is staffed 24/7 by 2 certified
Telecomunicators who dispatch Police/Fire and EMS personnel. Dispatchers
provided pre-arrival instructions to people calling 911 and requesting
the ambulance for medical emergencies.
Communications Operators for the Police Department are civilian employees who are trained both at the State and Local level. All successful candidates for this position must complete the State Telecommunications Program (and pass exam) as well as in-house training and assessment.
