The Brookfield Historical society Exhibit “TOYS” is now being held at the Brookfield Museum located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 133 in Brookfield Center. The exhibit will be open to the public every Saturday from noon to 4PM now thru March 14, 2010. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend. Among the many items are Civil war and Victorian era dolls, lead soldiers collections, vintage Disney toys, pre war games, a 19th century child’s sewing machine, early Gilbert erector sets, vintage cowboy cap pistols and holsters, from bygone years numerous toy trucks, cars, tractors and ships, wooden blocks, sidewalk roller skates, baseball games, and scale model wooden villages to name just a few. A great exhibit for children of all ages to attend.

The Brookfield Museum and Historical Society will sponsor its
annual model train show “Super Train Exhibition 20” on the consecutive weekends of March 20 and 21 as well as March 27 and 28 from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. The show will feature model train layouts from N to G scale. Railroad memorabilia, photos, antiques, artwork, videos, and authentic railroad sounds will highlight the event. Trains will be available for children of all ages to operate. Items for sale include railroad whistles, engineer hats, and other railroad related items. Admission: adults $4, Historical Society members and seniors $3, children age 7-14 $1, children under age 7 are free. All proceeds go to benefit future public programs of the Brookfield Museum and Historical Society.

The Brookfield Historical Society will sponsor, as part of their American Military Forum, a lecture and visual presentation on the events that led up to WWI and America’s entry into the Great War. Also, using photographs, letters and artifacts, an image will unfold revealing the impact on one American family whose son was drafted into the military service during the War. Peter Cronin, a Brookfield resident, who over the years has given numerous lectures on various aspects on the Civil War, will be making the presentation. The public is invited to attend. Complimentary refreshments will be served and admission is free

The Brookfield Historical Society will unveil, at their Museum, the newly restored Civil War Copperhead flag. It was sewn in 1861 by the female citizenry of Brookfield who were against the Union’s participation in the Civil War. Following the unveiling, a presentation on the Copperhead movement in Connecticut will be given.

SUBJECT: BROOKFIELD HISTORICAL SOCIETY HOSTS DISCUSSION ON THE GEOLOGY OF BROOKFIELD
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The Brookfield Museum and Historical Society will host a power point presentation by Geologist Jack Pawloski on Brookfield’s geological make-up including the area surrounding the new Route 7 by bypass extension and other noteworthy rock formations in the community. The program will take place at the Brookfield Museum on April 21 at 7:00 PM. He will discuss the rich mineral legacy of Brookfield and its impact on the development of the town. Pawloski is the Curator of the Connecticut Museum of Mining and Mineral Science located in Kent, Connecticut. He was recently featured in a Danbury News Times Article, “Grand Canyon is Boring Compared to Connecticut”. Following the presentation complimentary refreshments will be served. Memoirs of a WWII Veteran |
The Brookfield Historical Society will host a presentation by Richard Jaccarrino of Redding who served with the U.S. Army in WWII. He participated in the campaigns to recapture the Philippians and take the Japanese island stronghold of Okinawa. A Purple Heart recipient, twice award the bronze star, Jacccarino will recount his experiences during the two major offenses. The event will take place at the Brookfield Museum on Rt. 25. Admission is free and complimentary refreshments will be served after the program.

Brookfield residents Ryan Blessey and Bob Pitcher will give a hands on demonstration at the Gurski Farm Forge with equipment used in a working blacksmith shop. The Brookfield Museum and Historical Society will host the demonstration. In addition an exhibit of working vintage steam farm machines will be on display. The program is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, 2010. The exhibition is free and will take place between the hours of 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. The Forge at the Gurski Farm property is located on the north side of Route 133 heading in the direction of Bridgewater approximately four- tenths of a mile east of the intersection of Routes 25 and 133 in Brookfield Center. During the program, the Brookfield Educational Association will be recognized for their contribution of $2700.00 to the Historical Society to further community educational programs. Collete Sturm, the Education Association President will be on for the event.

The Brookfield Museum and Historical Society will host its annual Strawberry Festival, which follows the Town’s Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 30, 2010 between Noon and 3 P.M. The festival will feature at no charge a live jazz band and an antique car exhibit. In addition, homemade strawberry shortcake and soft beverages will be sold to the public. All proceeds will go to sponsor future programs of the Society. It will be held outside the Museum Building on Rt. 25.

19th Annual Crafts Festival
The Brookfield Historical Society will sponsor its 19th Annual Festival of Crafts on Saturday, November 6, 2010. The Festival will be held at the Whisconier Middle School gymnasiums located on West Whisconier Road off of Route 25 in Brookfield. The scheduled time is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission for adults is $5 or $4 with a coupon that will appear in the Danbury regional papers. Children 12 and under enter free.

VETERANS CONCERT |
A free concert to honor local veterans will be given on Sunday afternoon, November 7th at 2:00 P.M. The performance will be held in the community room of the Brookfield Public Library, located at 182 Whisconier Road (Rt.25). The event is part of the Community’s 7th Annual Veteran’s Program sponsored by the Brookfield Museum and Historical Society. The group J and B Lite, will present a selection of popular music, which emerged during the war years. Mollie McDonald, a local Brookfield talent, will provide vocal lead. Following the performance complimentary refreshments will be served. Admission is free and the general public is invited to attend.
